MS Cybersecurity Management

At the University of Utah, our courses combine the flexibility of online teaching with the advantages and direct engagement of traditional teaching. Enjoy the benefit of studying online at your own pace while still engaging with classmates and instructors. This flexible way of teaching improves your overall experience and your ability to retain what you learn.

Interactive learning comes in a variety of ways:

• Group assignments, where you collaborate via email, Zoom, or a discussion forum to answer a problem set.
• Contributions to a discussion forum, where you directly respond to previous posts.
• Peer reviews, where you review and comment on assignments from other students.

Our classes also offer multiple routes to stay connected and get help:

• Communicate directly with the instructor via email, by phone, or on Zoom.
• Participate in and guide online discussions.
• Attend online office hours in discussion threads, on the phone, or on Zoom.
• Instructors are available in “real” office hours for students on or near campus; for some courses we offer Q&A sessions in a classroom.

Master of Science in Cybersecurity Management

All MSCM Online program courses are taught by the same high-quality faculty members as on-campus courses. Your diploma will not designate your degree as an online program.

Students who are new to cybersecurity will benefit from gaining an introductory background to IS before starting the program. There are many free and inexpensive courses that will meet this need.  This Free online CLEP Information Systems course offered by Modern States Education Alliance is one option.

MSCM students have access to a number of career-management resources at the Eccles School, including a career coach who works one-on-one with students. We are dedicated to providing resources to help students maximize their graduate education.

One out of every three jobs in cybersecurity is vacant due to a shortage of qualified personnel available to meet the demand (Microsoft, Oct. 2021).

We view this as a management problem, as security controls must be implemented in every department or business unit in an organization. Many controls are policy, procedure, and human behavior-oriented, not just information-technology specific. This requires experienced leaders with not only strong technical and analytical skills, but also business communication and risk management capabilities.

For this reason, the Eccles School created the Master of Science in Cybersecurity Management Program as we are uniquely positioned to teach both the technical and leadership skills required for students looking to enter this new and rapidly changing field. Our goal is to position graduates to obtain excellent employment and have longer-term career advancement opportunities.
