At the University of Utah, our courses combine the flexibility of online teaching with the advantages and direct engagement of traditional teaching. Enjoy the benefit of studying online at your own pace while still engaging with classmates and instructors. All courses at the University of Utah, whether online or on campus, are taught by the same expert faculty members.
In order to apply for the master’s in nursing leadership degree, you must hold a:
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution
- License to practice as a registered or advanced practice nurse
The full-time master’s in nursing leadership online program lasts four semesters and requires 35 credit hours to complete. Students can also complete the program requirements on a part-time basis. Thanks to the program’s fully online, asynchronous format, many students are able to work part- or full-time while enrolled and can study at their own pace.
A key component is the 500-hour leadership residency, where students work alongside nurse leaders and educators, gaining hands-on experience and applying their knowledge in real-world settings.
To graduate, students must complete all required online nursing leadership courses.
Tuition is $931.50 per credit beginning in fall 2025. While tuition is subject to change, changes typically occur in the summer but can happen at any time. Get a personalized cost estimate.

You must submit the following application materials to apply for UOnline’s master’s in nursing leadership program:
- Application for graduate admission
- Transcripts from ANY and ALL colleges and universities attended, including the University of Utah
- You must have earned a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
- Evidence of a bachelor’s degree in nursing from a regionally accredited university or college and a nationally accredited nursing school from either:
- The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Accreditation (CCNE)
- The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
- Current résumé or curriculum vitae
- Three professional references
- Professional goal statement
