Political Science Overview

At the University of Utah, our courses combine the flexibility of online teaching with the advantages and direct engagement of traditional teaching. Enjoy the benefit of studying online at your own pace while still engaging with classmates and instructors. This flexible way of teaching improves your overall experience and your ability to retain what you learn.

Interactive learning comes in a variety of ways:

  • Group assignments, where you collaborate via email or a discussion forum to answer a problem set.
  • Contributions to a discussion forum, where you directly respond to previous posts.
  • Peer reviews, where you review and comment on assignments from other students.

Our classes also offer multiple routes to stay connected and get help:

  • Communicate directly with the instructor via email.
  • Participate in and guide online discussions.
  • Attend online office hours in discussion threads or on the phone.
  • Instructors are available in “real” office hours for students on or near campus; for some courses we offer Q&A sessions in a classroom.

Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the Department of Political Science.

All of the courses at the university, whether online or on campus, are taught by the same expert faculty members. 

There are no additional admission requirements.

The University of Utah’s online political science program is designed with flexibility for students in mind. There are only three required courses for students.

Every student takes US National Government.

Additionally, students choose two of the following three courses:

  • Introduction to International Relations
  • Introduction Comparative Politics
  • Introduction to Political Theory

In the UOnline B.S. in Political Science program, you can tailor your studies to match your interests. Choose from courses in data analysis, public policy, Asian politics, Latin American politics, and more. The program offers a comprehensive study, covering topics like voting behavior, political parties, race and ethnicity, the environment, and media.

The tuition rate for UOnline's B.S. in Political Science program is $520 per credit hour and is subject to change. Estimate your cost of attendance.

Tuition does not include additional fees, such as online textbooks or proctored exams. Fees and materials vary by program. 

The Department of Political Science, the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, and the University of Utah offer many scholarship opportunities. Applications for scholarships are typically open in December and close ten weeks later.
